Methana-Walking in the land of Hephaestus - 3 days
Walking in the land of Hephaestus I discovered a small paradise for healing and rejuvenation. Many different landscapes with main features to be:
- The green vegetation
- The brown-red craters and
- The thermal baths.
Route 1: Circular route to and from the city of Methana
If you arrive early in Methana I suggest a circular route to the city of Methana. It is a pleasant and easy walk with panoramic views of the city of Methana. You will walk along the waterfront and around the "Island", and along the thermal springs. Then head inland and gradually ascend through quiet paved roads. You walk to the area called "Vromolimni". From there on a large dirt road, enjoying the wonderful sea view. You go down to the east coast. Just before you reach the asphalt road, you can visit the ruins of a Mycenaean sanctuary with the modern church of Ag. Konstantinos & Eleni.
Through the coastal asphalt you walk back to Methana. Due to the type of road surface (you walk 80% on quiet paved roads), you can do this walk even with a stroller and it is suitable for families with children.

Route 2: From Methana to the Acropolis
Today we suggest a little demanding, yet very promising, hike. You will be transfered to the Ancient Acropolis of Oga by taxi, and if you want you can explore it. Afterwards, from the coastal road you ascend via a dirt track and cobbled path to the rural village Kypseli. After Kypseli you ascend via a narrow path and you hit the tarmac road that you follow for 15 minutes. Then you walk 350m on a dirt road and go onto a path. After 700m you continue on a dirt road following the rim of the Stavrolongos Crater. You come to a chapel from where a tarmac road takes you to the south side of the Crater. You see the remains of the lava stream. Then you descend via the old track along a river, until you reach Methana town at sea level.

Route 3: Walk to the active crater or visit the thermal springs
Before your departure, we suggest:
- A visit to the active crater in Kameni Hora if travelling by car, .
- Swimming in the thermal baths of the city if you don't have a car.
